ACS Gas Exam
The ACS gas exam is a set of written assessments taken at an approved centre, one per appliance category you hold. Almost everyone sits CCN1 (core domestic gas safety) first, because the appliance modules assume it. The questions above come from the maintained CCN1 bank and are the same items used in the full revision product.
What the ACS gas exam actually covers
ACS is not one paper. CCN1 is the core, and each appliance category adds its own assessment: CENWAT for central heating boilers and water heaters, CKR1 for cookers, HTR1 for fires and wall heaters, MET1 for meters, CPA1 for combustion performance analysis.
The written papers are open-book against the standards, so the skill being tested is locating a requirement quickly and applying it to the situation described, not reciting figures. Candidates who fail usually do so on the practical and on situational judgement, not on recall.
Expect gas safety regulations (GSIUR), the unsafe situations procedure, tightness testing and purging, ventilation, flueing, and emergency isolation. Every question above is drawn from those areas.
How to revise for it
Work in short sessions against real questions rather than reading notes end to end. Answer, read the explanation whether or not you were right, and note which standard the answer came from.
Where a question turns on a figure — a permissible pressure drop, a ventilation free area, a flue termination distance — check the source rather than memorising it. The assessment is open-book and rewards knowing where to look.
Track the topics you get wrong and return to them a few days later. Spacing the repeats is what moves a topic from recognised to known.
Initial assessment, reassessment and renewal
An initial ACS assessment is taken after a managed learning programme or with documented experience. Certificates run for five years, and reassessment is due before they expire.
Reassessment covers the same scope but assumes current working knowledge, so the common failure is a standard that changed since the last certificate rather than anything new.
Gas Safe registration depends on holding current ACS certificates for the work you carry out. The assessment centre, not this site, confirms the arrangements that apply on your date.

It varies by module and by centre, and the centre confirms the format for your sitting. CCN1 is the longest written paper because it carries the core safety content that the appliance modules build on.

What is the pass mark?
